The DeWitt Fire Department and the DeWitt Fire District are saddened to share the news that Assistant District Treasurer Phil "Phip" Resch passed away recently. Phil was a 69 year member of the fire department, joining July 21, 1950. He served many years as a fire district commissioner, including Chairman. Rest In Peace Phip, you where a great person and will be truly missed!

Such a tremendous person was always someone I had great respect for and was honored to work along side. He served and gave his time to the town and it’s residents with honor and respect.

I enjoyed skiing with him for years.He would always help me buy new skis.I remember I was to take my senior test and the week before my skis were stolen.Phil and Dewit sports found a pair just like my. Stolen pair.I was able to practice all week before my test.My test was great thanks to them.

I remember Phip as a member whom would still get out of bed at 2am to answer an alarm after 50th year Anniversary. Phip was a man whom always smiled and had a positive attitude. Phip is one of a kind, dedicated, approachable, and appreciative person. R.I.P. Phip, you will always be remembered!

When I joined the DFD in 1953 Phip was one of the first people who took me under his wing to show me the ropes. Through out my career his was always supportive and helpful in anyway he could. RIP old Friend.

Aw man, Phil was dedicated, not only in the FD but as a scout leader in troop 22....... very sad to hear this news, a local legend for sure, we will miss him......

Phip was always a gentlemen. I remember him from scouts, the Fire Dept. He sold me my first pair of skis at Dewitt Sports.

I’m so sorry to hear this. He was always a good neighbor. Our sincere condolences to his family as well as the DeWitt FD family.

Mr. Resch (never Phip to me) could ride his bike to the station (and have E-1 on the apron) faster than I could drive from my house - You could count on him to get you there (old E-1 was ornery) and get you water! RIP Sir

Mr. Resch was always gentlemen and one of a very few men in DeWitt whom was a true example of honesty and ethics.
